7 Questions with Marta, our Community & Partnerships Manager
Meet Marta Korusiewicz
She’s our first Community & Partnerships Manager and she’s on a mission in the startup ecosystem (when she’s not missioning around in the great outdoors). Here are seven quick questions to help you get to know her.
1. Why did you join our team?
I joined to help grow the community of founders and partners within the startup ecosystem.
I love the Standard Ledger approach – very personal and collaborative. We operate as enablers of the ecosystem.
2. Tell us a bit about yourself
I grew up in Poland and came to Australia several years ago. I decided to take a gap year after my studies and ended up travelling and living in Japan for a while. Then my friend told me how amazing Sydney is so I decided to visit. I did a marketing course here and what was supposed to be a six-month stint turned into Australian citizenship.
I love the outdoor lifestyle in Australia and the sunny warm weather most of the year. I got into a healthy outdoor lifestyle living here, which I love! I enjoy beach runs every day (I live in Bondi) and hiking, cycling and camping trips.
My two favorite activities are mountain biking and kite surfing.
3. What’s your professional background?
I studied social communication and sociology in Poland, and then marketing in Australia. I previously worked in the travel and events sector and at Qantas Loyalty. About three years ago, I made a leap to the startup ecosystem and I have loved it from day one. I have been nurturing the startup and investor ecosystem in Australia, and I am very happy to be part of such a vibrant, kind and innovative ecosystem.
4. What’s your personal elevator pitch?
I am all about learning something new and meeting new people. Change is constant in life and I believe in challenging yourself and your comfort zones so bring it on!
5. What gets you out of bed in the morning?
The sense of being part of a community. I am motivated by knowing my day is full of social interactions and mutual collaboration to kick goals.
6. What’s the hardest but most rewarding thing you’ve ever done?
Moving to the other side of the world – leaving my family behind, starting life as a migrant, building my career and making new friends. But, to date, it tops anything I have done.
